Lotte Reiniger (1899-1981)
Alman film yönetmeni ve animatör. Tam adıyla Charlotte "Lotte" Reiniger, siluet animasyonun öncülerindendir. 40'tan fazla animasyon film yapan Reiniger, en çok Prens Ahmet'in Maceraları filmiyle tanınır. Prens Ahmet'in Maceraları, Binbir Gece Masalları etkisi ve esiniyle oluşmuş, gizemli ve egzotik bir görsel dile sahiptir. Reiniger, Prens Ahmet'in Maceraları'nı 1926'da çekmiştir. Walt Disney'in 1937'de çektiği Pamuk Prenses ve Yedi Cüceler uzun metrajlı animasyonundan önce çekilmiş ilk uzun metrajlı animasyon filmdir.

Dönemin koşulları göz önünde bulundurulduğunda gerçekten çağına göre öncü bir sanatçı olduğu rahatlıkla kabul edilebilir. Tekniği ise cut out olup, filmlerini kamera altında stop motion olarak hareketlendirmiştir. Son dönem filmlerinde arkaplanda renk kullanmış olsa da, asıl öne çıkan tarzı tamamen siyah beyaz gölge ve ışıktan oluşan kompozisyonlardır. Reiniger, doğu kültüründen ve masallarından konu olarak etkilenmiştir. Bununla birlikte filmlerindeki görsel ögeler de doğunun gölge oyunu geleneğinden beslenerek oluşmuş bir yöntemin ürünüdür. Karakterleri ve arkaplanları, siluet olarak kullandı. Hareket edecek kısımları eklemlerinden raptiyelerle tuturarak kukla haline dönüştürdü. Asıl ustalığı ise, canlandırmaları son derece yumuşak ve akıcı biçimde yapabilmesidir.

Tarzı günümüzde de pek çok illüstratöre, sanatçıya esin kaynağı olmaya devam etmektedir.

German film director and animator. Charlotte "Lotte" Reiniger is the pioneer of the silhouette animations. She featured more than 40 films including the most famous one: "Adventures of Prince Achmed".  She used a mysterious and exotic visual narration in Adventures of Prince Achmed film, which has been inspired by 1001 Arabian Nights. She shoots the film in 1926 before Walt Disney made the first long feature as "Snow White and Seven Dwarfs" in 1937. So Reiniger's film was the first long feature animation film years before. 

Whereas the condition of the day, she is obviously a pioneer artist. She used cut-out technique and animated as stop motion with a camera. Although she used to colour in several backgrounds, her general style covers black&white using the light and shadow. She inspired the eastern culture and fairy tales. The visual elements in her animated films have been shaped with the inspiration of shadow play. Charackets and backgrounds were used as  a silhouette. The moving parts were cut from the joints and became a paper doll / puppet. 

Today, lots of illustrator and animator is being inspired by her style.
